The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury is embarking on an exciting transformation of Holland Street as part of the Holland Street EA Study. This project is aligned with the Transportation Master Plan and the Town’s Strategic Plan, focusing on:

  • Promoting employment growth
  • Improving community and traffic safety
  • Reducing congestion
  • Upgrading existing infrastructure

This study is a key step in revitalizing Downtown Bradford, turning it into an inviting, walkable, and people-friendly destination for residents, visitors, and businesses alike.

Why Now?

The planned Bradford Bypass provides an opportunity to shift regional traffic off Holland Street, allowing for a renewed focus on creating a vibrant downtown core. As a gateway to the urban center, Holland Street must be updated to support the Town’s vision of improved safety, mobility, and economic vitality.

What to Expect During Construction

We understand that construction can be disruptive, and we are committed to working closely with local businesses and the community to minimize impacts. Some of the ways we plan to support businesses during construction include:

  • Maintaining sidewalk access and providing clear signage
  • Community Liaison staff to assist pedestrians in reaching businesses
  • Scheduling work during off-peak hours when possible
  • Exploring temporary relocations for businesses, if feasible
  • Organizing street festivals and events to encourage foot traffic

The Future of Downtown Bradford

The preferred design solution for Holland Street will:

  • Support downtown revitalization, making it a vibrant destination
  • Create space for patios and public gathering areas
  • Enhance the streetscape and public realm with improved pedestrian zones
  • Promote active transportation by prioritizing walking and cycling
  • Increase pedestrian traffic and boost economic activity for local businesses
  • Provide opportunities to incorporate Indigenous histories through public art and wayfinding features
